24 Hour Turbo Klar Finings
24 Hour Turbo Klar Finings

Turbo Yeast like the Alcotec 48 become even more useful if you can clear the wash equally fast.

With the new Alcotec 24 TurboKlar - a 24 hour fining agent for wine and turbo fermentations - this is now possible!
The Alcotec 24 TurboKlar will clear up to 25 litres of turbowash in only 24 hours to brightness, or near-brightness. Ready for your reflux still, and for the final treatment with activated carbon and essences.

Suitable for use with spirits, but can also be used with wine and beer

Alcotec 24 TurboKlar will help producing very clean alcohol with a minimum of off-flavours. Your spirit will normally need treatment with activated carbon for maximum quality but you may well find that your charcoal lasts longer because of the clean alcohol produced.

We recommend using Still Spirit Essences when flavouring your homemade alcohol/vodka. This is a small, very high quality range of the core types of spirit essences.
Alcotec 24 TurboKlar:
Speeding things up
Alcotec TurboKlar finings is made from natural products and works a bit like "hair extensions" for the yeast cells. It is a two step process where the first sachet (kiselsol) will speed up the natural hair growth so the "clouds" appear sooner and the second sachet contains very long molecules (chitosan) that will be the "extra hair" which tie up the "clouds" more firmly.

So in short: Add the first sachet to speed up natural hair growth, then add the long molecules of sachet no 2 to bind the yeast cells more firmly to each other. They will of course then drop down very quickly and your wine will clear. Obviously, you need to be careful when adding sachet B - if you shake/stir too much you will break up the clouds when you really want to bind them together. You should only shake/stir enough to distribute the content in the liquid (so all "clouds" bind together).

How to make moonshine - some background
Fermentation - How it all works

So what is fermentation really? Well, slightly simplified, it is when yeast cells are eating sugar and (unfortunately for themselves) produce alcohol as a by-product. Alcohol is poisonous to yeast cells and in the end it will kill them.

But it turns out that yeast cells are cleverer than you would expect. They can't stop eating sugar, it is just too yummy, so they have to do something else to stay alive for as long as possible.

When they sense that the food supply is getting low (and the alcohol level high) they start to grow a lot of hairs (filaments). After swimming around for a while these hairy yeast cells get tangled up with each other and form large "clouds" that will eventually get so heavy that they sink down and form a sediment.

The cells in the upper layer of the sediment will work as "life guards", protecting the others with their own bodies. This enables some cells to stay alive for a long period in a poisonous environment. And this is the reason your wine will clear - eventually - even without fining agents.

Extreme purity

The same techniques as with Alcotec 23% is here used to produce lower alcohol but with hyper pure vodka-like quality. This is the cleanest moonshine fermentation on the planet.

Fermenting your wash for home distillation of moonshine has taken yet another step forward. It is now possible to ferment near-Vodka quality (low alchohol) for home distillation (ideally with a SmartStill) of hyper pure Vodka.

The new breakthrough in moonshine fermentation technology came when we managed to add activated carbon in liquid form to a fermenting wash. It is not as easy as it sounds - if you just go ahead and add carbon, you will very likely disturb the fermentation to a point where it will no longer work well, resulting in low alcohol of poor quality
With our new recipe - based on years of researching new trace minerals in combination with exotic yeast strains - it is now possible to include activated carbon during fermentation and achieve a new degree of purity.

Active dried yeast, nutrient, activated carbon.

25 litres of 14% alcohol in 9 days

Mix hot and cold water to a liquid temperature of 30 °C in a sterilized fermenter (capable of holding minimum 27 litres). Adjust volume to exactly 21 litres.
Add either 7 kgs of Brewing Sugar (Dextrose Mononydrate) or 6 kgs of normal white granulated sugar and mix well until liquid is completely clear.
Add contents of both sachets (yeast/nutrient and activated carbon) to the liquid. NOTE: shake the carbon sachet before opening to make sure there are no lumps, especially near the edges of the sachet.
Leave to ferment at room temperature (18 °C - 24 °C) for 7 days (until no more activity - can take 1-2 days extra if cool room temp).
NOTE: If ambient temperature is above 24 °C your fermentation will stick prematurely.
NOTE: Always consider the risk of leaks, frothing etc when choosing where to place fermenter.
Add a good fining agent (Alcotec Turbo Klar or similar) and leave to clear for 2 days (the wash does not have to be completely clear for distilling) or longer if you plan to use it without distilling.
NOTE: It is important to use turbo clear, otherwise unwanted substances absorbed during fermentation will be released again during boiling.
Siphon off, and your wash is ready for distilling with your SmartStill or other use.
Fermenting Larger volumes (over 25 ltrs)

Can be done, but only to a very limited extent. For stacking we recommend the Alcotec 48 instead, a fantastic all-round turbo yeast which tolerates high temperatures and all sorts of bad treatment.
