American Craft Beers

This is just one of their great range of which I am a huge fan. The variety of styles and flavours, and the quality of the finished product is excellent. The only disadvantage is that their range has slightly reduced my sense of experimentation.

Never stir beer before bottling

Never had a problem with these kits when adding hops add a few days before and then batch prime with sugar at least an hour before bottling or kegging to allow settling time. This beer tastes awesome a must for American Amber craft lovers.

Another fine beer kit from Young's

Another fine beer kit from Young's. Excellent hoppy Amber Ale. Quite similar to the American Pale Ale they also do and not quite as sharp as the IPA. This kit is perhaps slightly less of that sharp hoppy taste of the Pale Ale also and definately more balanced. Very good. But... I prefer sharper hoppy ales so.... Still very good, but the American Pale Ale is still the king in my opinion. These Young's American Craft Brewing kits though are absolutely fantastic.

Let down by instructions

This beer came with a separate sachet of hop pellets which were added 2-3 days before bottling and the instructions said not to stir so I didn't. The instructions then say to stir in the sugar in the fermenter for consistency in the bottled batch - I don't normally do this, preferring to add sugar to each bottle. So, stirring in the sugar just stirred the hoppy scum through the brew. It tastes OK but its not as good as it should be, very cloudy because it was stirred. I think the instructions are wrong. (HBO - Thanks for your review. The instructions state to transfer to a second vessel if batch priming for bottling)

I've brewed a few kits in the past and this one is by far the best one I've ever made. The instructions are easy and concise although they don't state a starting gravity. I'd recommend buying the better yeast for this kit. This is the first beer I've made that doesn't smell or taste home brewy and has a lovely hoppy caramel after taste with a tasty citrus aroma. I will be trying the other kits in this range as I think youngs have nailed it with this kit .
